The instance in which I am going to share that I demonstrated one of the 7 Core Army Values started during my senior year in high school. I was trying to decide what to do after I graduated. The thing was, I was stuck with one of those dead end jobs around here in Moultrie so I did any means of paying my college tuition. I kept this in mind when I was trying to decide which direction to travel in after I graduated. One day when a group of my friends and I were in our cosmetology class at Moultrie tech, two very important people walked into my life, Sgt. Michael Britt and Sgt. Mary Palmore two army recruiters. They took the time out to talk to the class about the options of going into the army and along with some of the benefits. I loved the idea that I would get to defend and serve my country while getting a college education at the same time. I went home and told my mother about my day and that I was interested in the army and she instantly supported my decision. I went on, took the ASVAB and scored outstanding on it. I was processed and everything, I had even picked my job when around that time; but my mother lost her job. I knew that she was having a hard time trying to make ends meet, especially with 4 kids and her trying to get my supplies that I needed to graduate. My recruiters helped me out in every way they could, but I knew that I could not leave my mother in that predicament. She never once asked me not to go into the army, but I knew that when I left, she would not be able to handle everything herself. So I put my decision to go into the army off to the side because I knew that it was my duty to my family to put them first. It was my turn to be loyal. I did end up going to college and I am still enrolled. The decision that I made did disappoint me but only temporarily. I was able to stay behind and help my mother and go to college to better myself at the same time. This concludes my story of a time when I demonstrated one of the 7 Core Army Values.
